Our brief was to showcase adidasโ strapline โYou Got Thisโ in action as Lead Sponsor of the Manchester Marathon, integrating their message seamlessly into the race day experience with murals at various locations throughout the route.
The concept: a giant (1600sqft to be precise) floor mural painted directly onto the track on Manchesterโs famous Oxford Road, positioned at mile 26 - the final push.
Our murals were designed to give the 40,000 runners taking part that all-important boost at multiple locations throughout the race, and especially at mile 26, when they needed it most: with the finish line in sight.

We took great care to make sure the floor mural was readable from a range of different viewpoints; for the thousands of runners approaching the mile 26 point as well as for the crowd of 140,000 watching live, and those on playback. The position aligned with finish-line sightlines, media cameras, drones/helicopters and spectator vantage points.
The activation created an emotional photo finish for the marathon, cheering on runners to cross the finish line, and generating visceral excitement for the 140,000 spectators watching live at the event and thousands more via broadcast and social media. The mural wasnโt meant to feel like advertising, but instead a motivational message for runners and spectators alike, showcasing adidasโ brand values and reinforcing them as the principal sponsor of the event.

Our artists had just 8 hours in total to paint and strike the mural - 4 hours before the start of the marathon and 4 hours after it finished - ready to re-open the road. Not bad for a dayโs work!
