Produced by Global Street Art, London Mural Festival 2024 was a huge feat of human creativity, which celebrated the theme of ‘Connection’. The festival brought together over 300 artists from all over the world to create 100+ permanent public art murals across London. The line up featured some of today’s top muralists and street artists, with permanent artworks by Aches, eL Seed, Mr Doodle, Rosie Woods, Sebas Velasco, Sophie Mess, Zabou, Shepard Fairey and many more!

The festival has left behind an incredible artistic legacy for the capital’s communities and visitors to enjoy for years to come - and now, London is the street art capital of the world (according to this report in Secret London).

The Community
Local residents helped shaped the festival, inspiring artists with the spirit and stories of their neighborhood. Over half of the festival’s murals were painted in housing estates as part of our Art For Estates programme, which turns ugly, or lacklustre urban spaces into vibrant works of art for local communities across the UK. The programme has been running since 2012, but London Mural Festival 2024 saw us paint the highest number of murals in housing estates we’ve ever managed at one time, with over 80 murals!

Angry Dan x London Mural Festival at Olympic Park Stratford, 2024
Locals were at the heart of the creative process, selecting the artists, inspiring the designs, and getting involved during the painting sessions. We even hosted BBQs and street parties for some residents.
Alongside the mural programme, we also hosted a series of public events welcoming over 1,500 visitors. This included street art tours, spray-painting and creative workshops, parties and an enormous illustrated map of London by artist Angry Dan in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Impact and Press
The festival had 116 pieces of press coverage with an estimated readership of over 5 billion.
Coverage highlights include The Guardian’s Photos of the Day featuring Sebas Velasco’s mural, an interview with CEO Dr Lee Bofkin in Creative Boom, a full feature in BBC London News (reaching 615 million) and pieces in Colossal, Metro, The Standard, and many more.
We worked with the Greater London Authority's data team to help analyse the impact of our murals on the local area, and found...
"Sense of place" scores went up 40% - with communities feeling more connected and proud of their local area.
Footfall increased 33% on average - driving visitors, with +17% average dwell time.
Our murals and events generated huge buzz on social media with 286 pieces of user generated content and an estimated 1.3 million impressions, whilst our festival website, londonmuralfestival.com had 160,000 visitors.
What's next
As you can imagine, painting the city on this scale takes serious organising and a lot of work! That’s why we currently produce London Mural Festival every four years.
