The Community
Local residents helped shaped the festival, inspiring artists with the spirit and stories of their neighborhood. Over half of the festival’s murals were painted in housing estates as part of our Art For Estates programme, which turns ugly, or lacklustre urban spaces into vibrant works of art for local communities across the UK. The programme has been running since 2012, but London Mural Festival 2024 saw us paint the highest number of murals in housing estates we’ve ever managed at one time, with over 80 murals!
"
It provides a moment of creative joy and human connection for the area - we’ve had many people who wouldn’t normally interact with us go out of their way to say how much they appreciate the art in their life and community"
